Letter: Glen-L Marine Designs Dear Friends I recently completed (If one ever really completes a larger boat) your Glen-L 25 Duet. I have included some pictures that you can use for what ever you like. I made a few modifications because of the intended use. Since I do lots of boating on the upper Mississippi where sailing is impractical and since I will motor a lot, I put on two kick up rudders, each as deep as the retracted center board and put the motor in the center. I also added a small hatch on the back of the aft cabin to more easily access the motor. The mast is a shortened E scow mast that I got free. I built the entire boat outside in my back yard here in Wisconsin using a building form mounted on posts in the ground. This worked well but did slow me down some. The project took four years, about 20 hours a week, and I enjoyed it very much. The boat sails very well and is so well balanced that I can let go of the tiller for five or ten minutes and it stays on course. It points to the wind well and has been through quite a storm with winds 45 miles per hour. It is a dry boat and cuts the big waves. |
