Utility by Jonathan Couper

Utility boat frames

I completed Utility May 2005 and in early 2006 I re-designed the deck and cockpit layout. The project from start to finish (launching) took 3 months. A 2005 15 hp Johnson outboard powers it to about 30 mph in calm water. The modified layout enhances performance and handling. Weight is evenly distributed and allows the boat to ride slightly bow high. I installed an 11 gallon fixed fuel tank, with deck fill, where the aft seats were. 3/4" marine mahogony plywood is used for the dash with 7 coats of varnish. The hull is bright red single part epoxy paint that has been applied using the 'roll and tip' method. This gives it a spray painted look without the mess. This was my first project and certainly not my last.
