10 October 2006: I just crossed over Lake Guntersville on my way back from Hunstville this weekend visting inlaws. It is very nice this time of year. The lake appeared to be close to full pool unlike many other lakes in the south this time of year.

David

15 October 2006: Connie, Dave and I had a great day! Lake Guntersville is great! Thousands of acres of lake. You, V-drive guys would go nuts! Nice Sailboats were out. Mountains and Water on a big lake!

Two GREAT options, Great State Park, or a nice Marina (Really Nice People) with the Chamber of Commerce and local area support. Locals are excited about us coming there.

OH, YES! JOHN, the convenience stores in the state park sell BEER! I'll buy the FIRST 12 Pack!

Bill

16 October 2006: Hey, if I trailer my jet Squirt from California do I get a prize for "came from farthest away"? Seriously considering it... might make me get off my butt and actually finish the boat!

Guntersville IS a really nice lake - we boated there when I lived in Huntsville in the early '90s. Do be careful about the local beer vendors, though... they most likely will not sell it to you on Sundays...

Peace,
TRM

16 October 2006: leakcheck, I will bring my 1950's MECHANICS ILLUSTRATED boat, (78") that was built in the late 50's per their plans. It has a 3 h.p. Clinton vertical shaft motor mounted under two mahogany doors and hooked to the lower portion of SOME kind of small outboard. Was built as a IO. I have rebuilt the motor, found a brand new fuel tank on Ebay and I restored the entire boat. Someone SMALL can test it for me. Offers???

I will also bring our extended 10% and beam widened 10" Sea Knight. It may NOT be finished, but will be on a trailer with cabin work in progress. It will have Charlie's one owner 1963 Evinrude Starflight III 75 h.p. mounted. His family requested that they would like for me to have, Charlie would LOVE to attend such a GATHERING. Did I hear someone say BEER.

I will probably bring my 19" long 1930 Rexner race car that ran on a rail system in the 40's and 50's. Very rare car that I found that had not been finshed, so I have spent HOURS & HOURS fab-ing lots of parts. Very neat piece, that I am really proud of.

IS THAT ENOUGH? hehehe.

leakcheck, when I was in HIGH School, YEARS & YEARS ago I was the designated driver, I COULD STILL DO SUCH.

P.S. If this EARLY planning of a GATHERING isn't enough MOTIVATI0N to get in gear and bring SOMETHING relating to boating, then I don't know what is. LET'S DO IT....

23 October 2006: My choice is Lake Guntersville State Park. October 18 - 20??? (I don't have an '07 calender right now.)

There are 13 lake side cottages with a pavilion. The boat ramp and the campground are about a mile. There is a primitive boat ramp at the cottages. It is about 10 miles into "Downtown" Guntersville. Holiday Inn on the lake (with dock).

Dave has been in contact with the C of C. Local support looks good!

And, The Lola's may come! http://rustymchugh.com/generic54.html

27 Oct 2006: I just saw a reference to this poll in the Newsletter. For me Guntersvile State Park is just a 2 hour drive and then 340 river miles away - piece of cake! Count me in. I pass by the park at least once a year in my Cabin Skiff when making a run to Chattanooga. Yes, Lake Gunthersville is on the Tennessee River which is my all time favorite river. Sounds like a fun get together!

Obviously, with the majority of votes going for the fall color change, the peak would be the last weekend of October. That would make it Oct, 27 & 28, 2007. Everyone OK with that?

Fall sounds great to me. I am building a Zip with a 1961 Merc 500. I will be flipping it this week and should be running by July. Do we have anyone building a boat in Columbia, South Carolina? ...chipper

The official dates for the Gathering will be October 27 & 28, 2007. That should give us some very good weather with no sweltering heat, bugs or raucous summertime crowds to contend with. The nights will be jacket weather and the days should be warm and comfy. Humidy will be low giving the air a really crisp feeling. Plus all the fall colors will be really close if not right at their peak. BTW, October is traditionally the South's driest month so there should be very little chance of a rain out.

Also, here is a quick photo showing some hint of color change on the trees. This should wet your appetite to the beauty of the place. And this photo was taken well before the color peak.

I was raised on the banks of the Ohio River in Kentuckiana. The summers were Memorial Day thru Labor Day. The summers were lousy boating, there were sooooo many pleasure boats out, it was hazardous to be out on the water, boats going every direction with most skippers not paying attention. After Labor Day, all that went away. The rest of September was still hot and humid. Then came October, the best boating time of the year.
