Building the Zip

The student pictured here turned a special shaft on the metal lathe to hold the sprocket and prop. The students carved the ten foot diameter prop from laminated mahogany and, after it was balanced, we bolted it to the shaft. The chain drive worked flawlessly.

You can see by the wake that this boat could move. I can’t tell you what a great day this was for me and my class. I could say alot more but these photographs do the job very well.
