AgnesR is a 25 foot version of the Double Eagle design, built over a period of 2 1/2 years and launched in early August of 2002. She was built outside during the summer months and was a source of interest to many people in the rural community in which we live - the village of Kagawong on Manitoulin Island, Lake Huron in northern Ontario, Canada. Most people are surprised to see someone building a boat, especially one of this size. She still attracts a lot of interest at the dock and on the water. She is an unusual design among the FRP deep V boats we encounter here on the North Channel of Lake Huron and northern Georgian Bay, where we cruise.

AgnesR is powered by a 90 hp 1989 Mercury 2 stroke outboard motor. She has a top speed of 24 knots but we cruise at either 14 knots as a semi-displacement hull or at 8 to 10 knots as a displacement hull. She is very comfortable in any sea conditions in which we have tried her, very soft riding with no pounding. The North Channel is considered to be "world class" cruising waters, with its many islands. These islands, however, bring with their beauty and protection, some very complex wave patterns when the winds pick up, as they do most sunny afternoons. Our deep V owner friends are amazed at her soft, sure ride in 5 or 6 foot waves. We can comfortably run at 14 knots in these conditions, easily outrunning our deep V friends who speed past us in calm waters.

The performance of our stretched Double Eagle has exceeded our expectations and we recommend the design to anyone who wants a comfortable boat in this size range.

I built many small plywood on frame boats when I was young, the first when I was 14 years of age, but had gotten away from boat building for 25 years or so. The Double Eagle was my first Glen-L design and the first large boat. Glen-L's plans are complete and easily built by anyone with any experience in wood working, and I recommend Glen-L as a source of plans as well.
