Bo Jest by Bill McComb, Davidson, North Carolina

18 February 2011 (Cont'd)

View from starboard bow. I installed a solid 316 stainless steel bow guard.

I raised the trunk cabin roof six inches and will raise the pilot house roof four inches. The decking and trunk cabin exterior walls are teak. I ripped 8/4 plain sawn teak into 3/16 inch wide quarter sawn strips. I glassed both the deck and cabin prior to applying the teak. The “caulking” for the teak decking is West System #655 G-Flex thickened epoxy and #423 graphite powder additive. The cabin teak was coated with West System #105 and #207 epoxy and marine spar varnish.

I used Sapele (African) mahogany for the cap rail, coaming, helm, mouldings, and transom storage compartments. Storage compartments are also installed on both port and starboard sides aft of the pilot house. I relocated the head to the port side just forward of the bulkhead. The engine cover for the Yanmar Diesel will also serve to house a refrigerator, storage compartment, and counter top

A sink will be located in the rear corner, port side, of the pilot house. I made an anchor locker which will be fastened under the deck to the strong back and the stem. I will relocate the pilot house door to the center of the (rear) pilot house bulkhead. I continued the elevation of the pilot house flooring forward of frame #3, approximately 18 inches to allow for mounting the fuel tank below. A fresh water tank will be mounted aft of frame #5
