Building the Alpha 2 by Robert Sanson - 2

Detail of the transom before the keel is attached. This joint is triple wrapped with fiberglass cloth.

There is no fiberglass cloth on the transom itself--just bright finished mahogany.

Lots and lots of sanding and fairing.

3 coats of latex primer.

2 coats of "40 year" latex exterior housepaint. Yes, that's right! Housepaint. No other paint has the mega research dollars into it like latex house paint. A paint that is supposed to last for decades in the sun, rain and snow without fading or peeling sounds like a good boat paint to me.

After 6 years I have touched up minor scratches and it still looks like new. $40 well spent! I still have 1/3 gallon left for touch up.
